The violin-viola duo repertoire is not huge, but at least has variety. This program moves from Sibelius’ lulling Duo to a sequence in which Robert Fuchs and Béla Bartók take turns— the late-19th-century Fuchs, with his explicit nostalgia, jumping on a time machine to go back a few decades, and Bartók with his rough-edged countryside dances, collected up and down the Balkans. Mozart’s vigorous Duo, originally circulated under Michael Haydn’s name, gives then way to Shostakovich's ironic, shameless suburban waltz, and finally to Norwegian Johan Halvorsen’s severe and somewhat impervious Variations on a theme by Handel.

How to reach San Benedetto Monastery:
The Abbey of San Benedetto in Val Perlana is located 800 m a.s.l. and can only be reached on foot via a beautiful forest walk, with a choice of two routes.
Itinerary 1 (1:15 h): start from Abbazia dell'Acquafredda at Lenno (see map), where there is car parking available. Proceed on Via San Benedetto, a cobblestone road that enters the woods, uphill, for about 1h, after which it becomes a semi-flat path for the last 15 minutes. Comfortable mountain walking shoes are recommended, preferably hiking boots.
Itinerary 1 (1:30 h): start from Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII, loc. Ossuccio (see map), at the foot of the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, where it is also possible to park the car. Proceed along the road that leads to the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine del Soccorso (a 25-minute uphill cobbled road) and continue further on a forest road to the small village of Cremia. This second stretch of road has the steepest slope (approximately 15 minutes). At a junction, continue to the right along the path that enters the woods and then, in about 50 minutes, reach the Abbey of San Benedetto. The path, which runs alongside Val Perlana, is sometimes flat and sometimes uphill. Comfortable hiking shoes are recommended, preferably hiking boots.
In case of bad weather:
In case of bad weather, the concert will be held at the Church of St. Eufemia in Ossuccio, Tremezzina (see map).
