Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 11:00 will be held the Holy Mass for the traditional feast of San Benedetto in Val Perlana at the picturesque Abbey of San Benedetto.
Abbey of San Benedetto
The Abbey of San Benedetto in Val Perlana is the most remarkable example of Romanesque architecture preserved in the village of Ossuccio. Very few decorations, three apses facing East and a large square bell tower: simple architectural lines for a rural abbey church that enchants and fascinates. Here you can breathe a unique atmosphere, very intimate and full of sacredness. Around San Benedetto there are only nature and silence.
How to get there
The Abbey of San Benedetto can be reached by two mule tracks that leave from the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine del Soccorso in Ossuccio (about 2:00 h walk) and from the Abbey of the Acquafredda of Lenno (about 1:30 h walk). Read the blog article on the walk
The church, composed of three naves, with their terminal apses, dates back to the eleventh century and is one of the most interesting Romanesque architecture of the territory of Como. The building is located in an evocative position, along the slopes of Mount Galbiga and was part of an ancient Benedictine Monastery, suppressed in 1431.
