From 8 December to 6 January 2019 at the Church of San Giacomo will be held the traditional Exhibition of Nativity scenes.
It was 2000, the Catholic Church celebrated the Great Jubilee and the “Città dei Balocchi” was 7 years old. A year earlier, the Fondazione Credito Valtellinese organized in Sondrio, the "International Exhibition of Nativity scenes", with over 100 works, expressions of different cultures from all over the world, from Austria to Chile, from Mexico to Spain, from China to Brazil, from Poland to Guatemala, ... just to name a few countries.
It was in this way that it was decided to re-propose the exhibition in Como, in the prestigious headquarters of the Archaeological Museum “Paolo Giovio” (which still houses a precious eighteenth-century Neapolitan nativity), thanks to the availability of the Foundation itself and the City of Como.
The event, which was a great success and was then hosted by the Church of San Giacomo is now in its 18th edition.
The works on display, on average over 100, are distinguished by the materials used, the most diverse among them, such as plexiglass, shells, walnut shells, ceramics of Caltagirone, bread, roots of shrubs, chocolate, iron, recycled material; the containers that collect the works, such as dioramas, ampoules or real boats such as the "Lucia", but also and above all for the creative flair, passion, sensitivity, elegance, simplicity and meanings contained in each work.
