The church is located in the village of Casanova in a favourable position not far from the river Perlana along the path leading to the Abbey of Acquafredda, to Molgisio and then to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Salvation.
The building, historically used for the burial of the people died from epidemics, represents a significant testimony of Romanesque architecture and is traditionally traced back to the first half of the 11th century on the basis of architectural features. As a matter of fact the church has a single nave with a semicircular apse and a roof with wooden trusses and roof stone slabs above, the walls are made of irregular Moltrasio stone blocks and with some tuff stone elements in the shelves and in the
arches.
