A rather challenging walk, but suitable for everyone, which from the village of Sala Comacina, passing through Canelva, leads to Alpe di Sala and continues to a breathtaking viewpoint over Lake Como.
We propose an alternative route to the trip along the Greenway of Lake Como.
It is a rather strenuous path, but of incredible charm: the path that from the village of Sala Comacina leads to the Alpe di Sala.
The starting point of this route is San Rocco in Sala Comacina, a small chapel along the Viale degli Ulivi (the street where you can comfortably park your car), where you will find the only sign pointing towards Canelva and the Alpe di Sala.
Follow the signs for Alpe/Canelva, then head towards Colonno. Go up the Greenway route but after a few meters, just before the cemetery, take the first small road that goes up on the right.
After about ten minutes you meet some farmhouses on the left in the locality Oseno; from here some alternative ways branch off, continue to climb along the mule track.
After a few meters you will find a nice farmhouse and to follow a cascinella from the pink door, continue for a few more meters until you reach a junction in the locality Loi: continuing straight, towards Ossuccio you reach the Torre del Soccorso or Torre del Barbarossa, while climbing on the left we head towards our destination.
Turn left and continue to climb.
Along the way you will cross one last house and then you will come to a flat stretch flanked by a huge smooth stone.
After a few meters you will finally have the first view of the lake,: at this point the trees branch off and you can admire the beauty of the landscape.
Behind the panoramic curve there is a small expanse with a yellow chapel where in autumn and winter, due to the scarce presence of vegetation, the Isola Comacina, the Balbianello and the tip of Bellagio are easily visible.
Leave the chapel on the right and continue until you reach some ruined farmhouses. After these farmhouses continue along the curve that goes to the right.
You arrive at a junction, this time you have to choose between a rather beaten path that goes straight on towards Ossuccio and another barely visible path that cuts to the left. Going to the left continue until you reach Canelva.
A gentle climb towards this village leaves behind an incredible panorama: an enormous expanse of meadows, with cows and goats.
Satisfied by this first great achievement, it is possible to continue along the mule track that, once passed the village, begins to climb with a series of hairpin bends. Often in this stretch of path you will meet other goats and animals with which the shepherds of the area produce the famous cheese or furmagit de cavra.
After the last 15 minutes of ascent, you will finally come to a sign indicating the Alpe di Sala.
We find ourselves at an altitude of 1240 meters above sea level in a south-facing position, sheltered from the wind, with a mild temperature in winter and a cool climate in summer. Here we can decide to stop for lunch and taste the typical products of the area, such as a good plate of polenta.
Just near the sign that indicates the farmhouse there is a sign that indicates "Panoramic Point at 10 minutes"; the slope that borders on the left side with the wood in 10 minutes leads to a beautiful Panoramic Point of Lake Como.
