Manlio Rho
An important figure in the world of art and a leading exponent, with other artists from Como who were his contemporaries (Carla Badiali, Aldo Galli, Carla Prina, Mario Radice) of the Italian historical abstractionism, Rho has made a significant contribution to the maturation of a vision of textile design in step with modernity. Through materials dating from the 1930s and 1950s, the exhibition aims to reconstruct the path from which it is possible to understand how Rho's activity reveals the mutual influences between the different arts: geometry and abstraction that characterize his pictorial works can in fact be better understood in the light of the continuous confrontation with the practice of building a textile pattern and thanks to the composition of forms and colors that constitute its essence. On display are about one hundred materials (many of which are unpublished), including drawings, fabrics, paintings, colour charts and paper documents. The exhibition is curated by Luigi Cavadini and Francina Chiara.
