The Chapel of the Alpini, dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Panoort, is located on the slopes above Tremezzo, in a wonderful position overlooking the Centre Lake Area. From the chapel you can extend your walk to Monti di Nava (868 m) with breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.
Starting point of the walk: Tremezzo
Itinerary: Tremezzo – Intignano – Cappelletta degli Alpino – Rogaro –Tremezzo
Duration of the walk: 1.30 h Ascent: 368 mt
At Tremezzo, just next to the entrance gate of the Hotel Villa Marie, take Via Monte Crocione. When you get to the cemetery, cross a paved road and keep walking along via Monte Crocione. Further up, right at the beginning of the historical hamlet of Balogno, cross another paved road and continue in Via Monte Crocione, which leads into the hamlets of Balogno and Volesio. In these hamlets you can find several 16th and 17th century stately homes with gardens, which testify to the success achieved by local merchants in Northern Europe.
On the arch opposite the church of San Pietro and Paolo you can see the coat of arms of the Carli family, one of the wealthy families of the area. Just after 30 mt on the right there is the gate of Palazzo Mainone with the coat of arms above the arch.
You reach the hamlet of Intignano, just past an arch, turn right following the trail signs for Monti di Nava – Monte Crocione. On the left you can see an antique fortified court. After ca. 100 m, near the last houses of Intignano, turn right (red-white-red sign) and follow the trail that, in a slight descent, run along the valley. At the next intersection keep left and proceed uphill and then walk along a small stream that you cross over some metal footboards. The track on the opposite side of the valley leads to a renovated farm house. You cross a small stream and you keep to the right (sign) and you ascend to the large pasture of Runch.
Follow the trail that runs along the right margins of the pasture. Behind one of the first buildings you surmount a small stone wall (sign). Keep to the right, and continue on the trail that winds up to a large clearing from where you can now see the Chapel of the Alpini, that you can reach briefly.
The view on the central lake area is breathtaking: in front of you the lake, the Bellagio promontory, the San Primo Mount and the Comacina Island, behind you the Crocione Mount.
Near the chapel there is a picnic area. After a break and a photo shooting you can take the path that leads down to the rural hamlet of Rogaro (approx. 25 min).
In order to reach Tremezzo follow the paved road (via San Martino) to the right and after 400 mt, just past the Hotel Rusall, pick up the alley with the sign “ristorante La Fagurida” that enters the hamlet of Rogaro.
At the end of the flight of steps, proceed on the paved road and at the height of the road sign “Rogaro” turn into the street on the left. After just 20 mt go down the steep steps on the right which lead down to Tremezzo. You end up on the main road near the tourist information office of Tremezzo.
