The new season of the Mount Calbiga Observatory has started. The Lario’s Astrophiles Group will lead you to the discovery of the universe from one of the nearest to the sky oculars in the whole region!
Astronomy enthusiasts will once again be able to observe and discover the skies above Mount Galbiga.
The Lario’s Astrophiles Group published the calendar of the opening days for 2016 season of the Observatory situated on the mountain.
The structure, situated at 1.607m of altitude, represents “the highest amateur observatory in Lombardy”.
Thanks to three powerful telescopes (a Celestron C14 refractor provided with a 12cm lens, a Newton-Cassegrain and a Schmidt-Cassegrain with 30cm and 35cm mirrors respectively) the enthusiasts and the curios will be able to admire planets, clusters and nebulas.
Access is open and free of charge. The opportunity to observe the universe “from one of the nearest to the sky oculars in the whole region” is not to be missed.
The Gruppo Astrofili Lariani (G.A.L.), or Lario’s Astrophiles Group, was founded on 13th December 1974 by will of Mrs Anna Sacerdoti, curious by nature about anything regarding science, with the help of a group of young people, all driven by different reasons, but all aiming at the same goal: to fulfil their own curiosity about unknown and unexplored worlds.
And this is how their difficult but profitable activity, as autodidacts and often with the help of professional astronomers, such as Livio Gratton, Margherita Hack, Tullio Regge, Vittorio Castellani etc etc began. The G.A.L. is today a non-profit association, whose main aim is to spread astronomic sciences and to carry out scientific works.
