EXHIBITION OF CRIBS
Pontifical College Gallio December 10 to January 6
hours 14:30 - 18:30 Closed December 25 and January 1
The crib is the distinctive and characterizing element of a Christmas tradition almost a thousand years old that has its roots in the twelfth century with St. Francis, the first proponent of the representation of the nativity in miniature.
Città dei Balocchi wants to exalt the history and the importance of this custom renewing an exhibition that this year finds space in a new location, the Pontifical College Gallio, historical institution of Como that for more than 400 years tells the passion for culture, friendship, human and spiritual formation.
Under the characteristic porticos of the first cloister of the Pontificio Collegio Gallio, various artists exhibit their nativities which, while maintaining their original meaning, often represent variations on the most classic themes in terms of materials and artistic inspiration, from the most traditional compositions to the most personal interpretations.
There are those who love to refer to the classic style and those who prefer refined interpretations: they are the real protagonists who share with all visitors the passion with which these works were born. The public can admire creations for all tastes, in a space that combines history and art, craftsmanship and tradition.
The setting up of the exhibition has been taken care of in collaboration with the Art teachers of the Pontifical Gallio College.
The event is organized by Pontificio Collegio Gallio and Città dei Balocchi, with the support of UniCredit.
