Since its first edition to date, with more than three hundred events, the Bellagio and Lake Como Festival has proposed an itinerary of art, music, and literature capable of traversing the entire Lake region; a Cultural Tourism project that comes to life from the legacy of leading figures of international musical heritage.
In 2011, on the occasion of the Celebrations for the second centenary of the birth of the Hungarian composer Franz Liszt and in the year of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, the First Edition of the Festival of Bellagio and Lake Como was born, with concerts, masterclasses, meetings, seminars, and cultural-tourist itineraries inspired by the figure of the Hungarian composer who spent some of the most important months of his life as an artist and as a man in Bellagio and Como. Since the first edition to date, with more than two hundred events, the festival has proposed a path of art, music, literature that can cross the entire Lake region; a Cultural Tourism project that comes to life from the legacy of leading figures of the international musical heritage, such as Franz Liszt, Giuseppe Verdi, Richard Wagner, Arturo Toscanini, and inspiration from personalities in the arts and literature such as Stendhal, Flaubert, Manzoni and many others, representatives of a historical period when Italy was seen as the Destination of Intellectuals, a time when the "trip to Italy" represented for every Artist a "formative obligation" and a life obligation.
