54th Edition of the Varenna International Prize “Pierantonio Cavalli” for Naïve Artists
For the 54th time, the protagonist in Varenna is again naïve art.
Beyond the various theories on interpreting a work of art, there is agreement that an artistic image communicates something. If we were to define the language of naïve art somehow, Esperanto comes to mind, as it is an art of universal communication.
A language understood beyond any cultural or morphological context, crossing every border due to its simplicity. The only difference is that naïve art, also known as “art brut,” is not studied— it is simply made.
Naïve art is not just an artistic genre but a way of being that continues to captivate with its intangible immediacy, proud unruliness, and fresh simplicity. While some still say, “I could do that too,” others continue to be thrilled and dive into that world of colors where nothing extraordinary happens, but where the scent of life in its most ordinary and reassuring essence can be felt.
