Massimo d'Azeglio (1798-1866) writer, painter and politician, often visited Lake Como in search of inspiration for his paintings. In 1841 he decided to buy a villa in Loveno, on the heights of Menaggio, fascinated by the charm of that hill village.
Characteristic of the house, barely visible beyond the high wall, was a tower from which you could see a picturesque view of the entire center of the lake. In this place Azeglio loved to retire, as he himself says in I miei ricordi (My Memories).
