Trail 1 of the Via dei Monti Lariani is a beautiful 28 km long hiking trail that from Cernobbio leads to Val d'Intelvi.
Many of these places, included in a variable range from 600 to 1.200 meters of altitude, were once mountain pastures (called "mûnt"), used by the coastal populations of the Lario (ancient name of the lake Como); from here the name "VIA DEI MONTI LARIANI" intended precisely as a connection road between these ancient settlements partly still active, partly abandoned or destroyed by time.
It is a path that can be covered by hikers with elementary preparation, that allows to admire exclusive panoramas and it is one of the most interesting itineraries of the Lombardy mountains. The route, designed by the CAI of Como, is entirely marked and divided into four paths.
Trail 1 goes from Cernobbio to Val d'Intelvi (28 km)
Trail 2 goes from Val d'Intelvi to Val Menaggio (26 km)
Trail 3 from Val Menaggio to Valle Albano (24 km)
Trail 4 from Valle Albano to Sorico (46 km).
The trail markers, consisting of red-white-red flags in paint on the stones and aluminum on logs and walls, are numbered from 1 to 4.
From Mount Bisbino (mt 1325) to the mountains of Valle Intelvi
The route starts from Cernobbio, Fraz. Rovenna, climbs to the summit of Mount Bisbino, then takes the path behind the Sanctuary and continues through the pine forest to the Monti di Scarone, the Monti di Madrona, the Chapel of San Carlo, up to the Colma del Bugone (mt 1111) - Refuge in a former barracks of the Finance.
Going around the Poncion della Costa, we reach the Colma dei Murelli (mt 1200) - Refuge - from where we can deviate towards the Cima del Monte S. Bernardo (mt 1349), - ancient homonymous chapel - wide view on the lake of Como. Then you reach the Colma di Binate (mt 1300), then the Casino dei Signori (place known for an episode of the insurrection of 1848). You arrive at the Colma di Schignano in Crocette, you go around the Sasso di Gordona and you arrive at the CAI Prabello refuge.
The mule track descends to Piano delle Alpi, continues through the old farmhouses of Ermogna and Carolza and reaches Capanna Bruno (CAI Refuge). There are two possibilities: you can go down directly through the carriage road towards the Alpe Grande or, continuing through the mountains, you can reach the Bocca di Orimento surrounding the Pizzo della Croce, from where the path to Monte Generoso starts.
From Orimento one descends to the Refuge of Monte Cristè (CAI), then skirting the plain of Alpe Grande (bolle) and passing through the locality Meriggio one reaches S.Fedele (locality Postiglione - Rimessa corriere).
