Thursday, August 1 at 9:00 pm in Piazza della Chiesa in Bellagio for the festival Bellagio in Blues 2019 will perform the Watermelon Slim.
Watermelon Slim stage name of Bill Homans is an American musician. He is a white blues musician. He plays both the guitar and the mouth harmonica.
Born in Boston, but raised in North Carolina, Homans has been playing since the 1970s and has performed with several notable blues musicians, including John Lee Hooker, Robert Cray, Champion Jack Dupree, Bonnie Raitt, "Country" Joe McDonald, and Henry Vestine of Canned Heat. His music is rooted in the style of the Mississippi delta, with his way of playing dobro with slide.
Typical acoustic performer, he occasionally plays the electric guitar. Recently, he did a tour with support group The Workers. In 2005, Homans was nominated for the prestigious W.C. Handy Award for "Best New Artist Debut".
He and the group were also nominated for six Handy Awards in 2006, in various categories, and for a Maple Leaf Award by the Toronto Blues Society, again in 2006, for the album Watermelon Slim and the Workers. In addition to being a musician, Homans has a degree in journalism and history from the University of Oregon and a degree in history from the University of Oklahoma. He is also a member of Mensa International. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Bellagio in Blues
Not only orchestra concerts during the summer. In addition to the Festival of Bellagio and Lake Como, there will be the Bellagio in Blues, a music festival dedicated to the Bellagio Blues.
