On Friday 18th September at 6.30 pm Villa Monastero in Varenna will host the concert "Romantic Sounds", the second event of the project "The wind song on the lake - Sounds, colours and scents in Villa Monastero", promoted by the Province of Lecco in collaboration with the Association Res Musica under the artistic direction of Angelo Rusconi.
The programme of the concert is dedicated to romantic sound with two masterpieces of the music: Bach's Ciaccona in the transcription made in 1892 by Ferruccio Busoni and the fiery Fantasia opera 17 by Robert Schumann, the prince of romantic musicians.
The Ciaccona, taken from the Partita n. 2 in D minor BWV 1004 for solo violin, becomes, in Busoni's hands, a monumental recreation that draws organ-like sounds from the piano.
Schumann's Fantasia, a work of exceptional piano virtuosity, develops a poetic vision of extraordinary breadth, in which moments of calm and sweetness alternate with dragging swirls of sound.
The interpretation of these highly involving pieces is entrusted to the solid experience of the pianist Costanza Principe, one of the most prominent young Italian performers on the international music scene. Born in Milan, after graduating with top marks, praise and mention at the Conservatorio Verdi, she perfected her skills at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is currently enrolled in the Specialization Courses of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Benedetto Lupo. Winner of prizes in national and international piano competitions, she plays for the most renowned concert societies, both in recital and as soloist with orchestra in Italy, France, England and South America.
The concert will be preceded, at 5.30 p.m., by a guided tour by the Conservator of the Anna Ranzi House Museum, with an in-depth examination of Antonio Ghislanzoni's letters currently on display.
The visit will be organised in groups of a maximum of 10 people.
The seats available for the concert are limited: therefore it is compulsory to book exclusively through the Vivaticket circuit; for information and assistance you can call 0341 295450.
The entrance fee is 10 euros (in addition to the pre-sale fee of 0.40 euros).
In case of bad weather the event will be postponed.
At the end of the concert it will be possible to taste an aperitif in the garden of the Villa at the cost of 7 euros.
The concert is part of the cycle of events linked to the enhancement of the Villa Monastero archive, which preserves letters by Antonio Ghislanzoni, Amilcare Ponchielli, Vespasiano Bignami and Roberto Fontana, representatives of the Lombard Scapigliatura; an exhibition will be dedicated to the Villa Monastero archive in October.
In September the Botanical Garden is open every day from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm; the House Museum from Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30 to 7.30 pm.
