Monday, July 12, 2021 - 21.30 for the Villa Olmo Festival is organized the show "In the mood for Hong Kong".
First appointment of the cycle Next stop: Beijing. Paths of discovery, debate and study on China today, the title of the meeting revisits that of a famous feature film of 2000 by Hong Kong filmmaker WongKar-wai, whose restored edition has appeared in cinemas in Lombardy in recent weeks, and the evening will be dedicated to Hong Kong, former British colony and autonomous region of China since 1997. As the chronicle has been telling for several months, Hong Kong has entered a phase of profound change. Contested between the People's Republic of China, determined to use increasingly muscular means to bring the city back within its own system of thought and government, and a large part of its inhabitants, worried about the rapid erosion of a unique identity built up over the century of British occupation, Hong Kong is living a crucial era in its history.
Marco Lupis, a journalist posted in Hong Kong, writer and author of Hong Kong. A Tale of a Suspended City, and Luisa Prudentino, scholar and expert in Chinese cinema, will talk about what Hong Kong has been, is and maybe will become. They will interweave their suggestions and reflections with various clips from the most important films of the extraordinary Hong Kong film tradition.
A multimedia event also to celebrate the enchantment of Hong Kong as a city of cinema.
