Sunday 30 April h 3.30 Villa del Balbianello will host the Concert of Stefano Maffizzoni (Flute) and Giulio Tampalini (Guitar): From Classic to Tango – firs concert of the LakeComo Festival, in collaboration with FAI – Italian National Trust.

Stefano Maffizzoni, born in Rome in 1973, is considered one of the best flutists on the international concert scene. He graduated with honors when 16 years old studying with the outstanding masters (Severino Gazzelloni, Aurele Nicolet, Wolfgang Schultz) in prestigious academies (Chigiana Academy in Siena, International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg, Vienna Hochschule).

As a soloist he has performed with many orchestras among others remember the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, Albuquerque Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, I Solisti Veneti, Symphony Orchestra of Bulgarian National Radio, Orchestra Ferruccio Busoni, the Philharmonic Academy, Sofia Chamber Orchestra , Vivaldi Concert, Macedonian Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra Vidim, Washington State Symphony Orchestra.

Starring in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall (London International Spring Festival), Guangdong Xinghai Symphony Hall (China), the Pantheon in Rome, Royal Durst Theatre (Washington), Teatro San Benito Abad (Mexico City), Sala Verdi in Milan ( Concert society), Joaquin Rodrigo Concert Hall (Madrid), Concert Hall Bulgaria (Sofia), Auditorium of the Macedonian Radio and Television, the Teatro Grande in Brescia, Mozart Hall (Philharmonic Academy) and Europauditorium Cagli Bologna, Auditorium Gasteig (Monaco of Bavaria) Bibiena Theatre in Mantova (Orchestral Concert Season Time), etc.

Several compositions were dedicated to him including “Slightly” winner of XXI the Winterthur International Competition and the Double Concerto for flute and piano and 37th Concert by Sergio Calligaris published by Carish (2006) premiered with the orchestra “I Solisti Veneti” conducted by Claudio Scimone.

Giulio Tampalini, won several major international guitar competitions, beginning with the first prize in the “Narciso Yepes” in Sanremo (Narciso Yepes, president of the jury), the T.I.M. in Rome in 1996 and 2000 and the “De Bonis” of Cosenza, to the premiums obtained at the “Pittaluga” in Alessandria, the “Fernando Sor” in Rome and at the “Andres Segovia” in Granada. He gives concerts as a soloist and accompanied by symphony orchestras throughout Italy, Europe, Asia and America, appearing in important music festivals and major music festivals. In 2001 he attended the Christmas concert at the Vatican in honor of the Pope.

Many are his musical collaborations, including one with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In 2003, his double CD “Francisco Tarrega: Complete Works for Guitar” (Edizioni Concerto) was awarded the Golden Guitar at the VI International Congress of Alexandria Guitar as best CD of the year. Another recording project involves the recording of all compositions by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco guitar in five volumes.

There are countless works by contemporary composers dedicated to him, both in Italy and abroad. Giulio Tampalini is guitar teacher at the Institute of Musical Studies “Vecchi-Tonelli” in Modena and is regularly invited to give courses and master classes throughout Italy and abroad. Recently he performed in China as a soloist with the Wuhan Symphony Orchestra with which he has achieved extraordinary success. He plays guitars by luthier English Philip Woodfield and is an official endorser of Aquila Corde Harmonics.
