Music composed by cloistered nuns in the Baroque era, rediscovered a few decades ago, of remarkable quality and pleasantness. The compositions of the nuns alternate with pieces of great authors (and authors) of the seventeenth century as Claudio Monteverdi and Barbara Strozzi. The interpreters of this "feminine" concert are prestigious, the contralto Francesca Biliotti and the lutenist Elisa La Marca, who will also play the theorbo.
The concert will be preceded at 8:00 p.m. by a guided tour, curated by the Conservator Anna Ranzi, of the exhibition Antonio Venini (1858-1941): the charm of the lake and nature in the landscapes of Varenna, reserved for those who will buy the ticket of the concert.
Francesca Biliotti, finalist and winner of several international competitions, has to her credit numerous operatic and concert performances in prestigious venues. In 2017 she took part as soloist in the world tour for the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi under the direction of Sir John Eliot Gardiner performing in the most prestigious theaters in Europe and the United States. In 2018 she sang at the Wigmore Hall in London together with contralto Sara Mingardo and was featured in the opera "The Tragedy of Claudio Monteverdi" with performances in The Hague, Maastricht and Copenhagen. In 2021 she will sing as soloist in Vivaldi's "Teuzzone" in Toulouse conducted by Jordi Savall and in a European tour of Monteverdi's madrigals.
Elisa La Marca is one of the most brilliant Italian guitarists and lutenists active on the international scene. She collaborates with prestigious ancient music ensembles and orchestras and is co-founder of the Quartetto di Liuti da Milano. She has performed in important festivals in Europe, America and China participating in the most prestigious concert seasons including the Salzburg Festival. She has recorded for RSI Italian Swiss Radio, Radio 3, Rai 5, Mezzo Tv. He has made recordings for Musicaviva-Egea, Arcana, Brilliant Classics, Glossa.
This prestigious event is part of the cycle Il canto del vento sul lago - Suoni, colori, profumi a Villa Monastero promoted by the Province of Lecco in collaboration with the association Res Musica under the artistic direction of Angelo Rusconi. The project has been developed with the Conservator Anna Ranzi, as the themes of the concerts are connected to the history of the Villa.
