Saturday, 8th October, the last excursion of the season of the Sustainable Lake Como project: discovering the Albano Valley in its Autumn version.
The itinerary starts from the Passo del Giovo Pass (1706m).
The walk is quite easy and it develops along a simple path that allows you to walk all along the head of the Albano Valley, crossing meadows and shrub land, as well as some small streams that cut across the southern slopes of the valley.
Deers, wild boars, chamois, foxes, black grouses, eagles and buzzards are just a few of the many species typical of the area.
The excursion will reach the Italian-Swiss border at an altitude of 1950m, where a perennial pond indicates the springs of the Albano Valley.
Anyway, the highlight of the day is the Sommafiume Shelter (1798m – unmanaged), a former tax barracks, from where you can admire the whole of the Albano Valley and the peaks that characterize its North-Western slope (Cima Verta, Cima Pomodoro and Mount Albano).
